Like reader Helen Rawles (#Made uthink, March 12), I saw the film Mandy as a deaf child in the 60s. It made me determined to be a teacher and I was one of the first deaf-from-birth people to qualify as a teacher of deaf children. In my 34-year career, lives have been changed and I’ve loved it. I’m so glad this topic is back in the news through The Silent Child. Success is the best revenge against doubters. Chris Mac, Shepperton Surrey

After the expulsion of 23 Russian diplomats, let’s not forget about those Russian football thugs who ran riot and attacked people at Euro 2016 in France.

There could be serious repercussions against our supporters at the World Cup because of this. Those louts are potential killers who don’t think twice about violence and they allegedly had links to the Russian government. Our government should warn our fans. Barry Ratcliffe Eccles, Gtr Manchester
