Jockey flees sentence for £43k swindle

- BY MATT STRUDWICK

A JOCKEY who stole £43,000 from three exlovers to feed a gambling addiction is being hunted after he fled court just before being sentenced.

Judge Stuart Trimmer had told Gordon Gallagher, 44, to go to the bank and pay back the money by 2pm Gallagher claimed he could refund it in full.

A police officer escorted Gallagher into Guildford, Surrey, but the jockey was only able to transfer £25,000 into his former partners’ bank accounts.

CCTV at Guildford crown court then showed Gallagher, of Epsom, Surrey, standing outside at 1.54pm before walking off.

Mr Recorder Trimmer ordered an arrest warrant and told two victims at the hearing: “He doesn’t cover himself with glory.”
