THE most expensive chocolates in the world, costing around £6,800 each, have gone on display at a fair.

Covered in edible gold, the diamond-shaped sweets are filled with saffron, Madagascan vanilla, white truffle and gold flakes.

Each chocolate’s crown-shaped box is decorated with 5,500 Swarovski crystals. Two guards are watching over the 1,000 limitededition sweets at a chocolate festival in Obidos, Portugal.

Portuguese chocolatier Daniel Gomes, said his creations are certified as the world’s most costly by the Guinness Book of Records.

The 2017 title holder was the £180 La Madeline au Truffe by Danish creator Fritz Knipschildt.
