CUP GLORY IS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT SAYS ALFIE

- BY JAMES CANDY SWANSEA: TOTTENHAM: REFEREE: HEAD2HEAD: ODDS:

ALFIE MAWSON will be walking under the Wembley arch a lot sooner than he expected after his surprise England call-up.

The Swansea defender has earned a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the forthcoming World Cup warm-up matches against the Netherlands and Italy.

But Mawson is not letting a potential role at the World Cup distract him from leading his club to FA Cup glory.

“I don’t want to get my head turned by chat about internationals,” said Mawson (above). “Some pundits said I had a chance of getting in the squad and others thought I didn’t.

“The call-up is fantastic and it’s a proud moment for me, but I’m not thinking about it too much. I’m just focused on keeping Swansea up.” Spurs stand in Swansea’s way of a first FA Cup semi-final appearance in 54 years.

Tottenham must cope without 39-goal Harry Kane after he damaged ankle ligaments.

And Mawson believes the striker’s absence presents an opportunity his side have to take at the Liberty Stadium today.

“We have to have a go because we may not get another opportunity like this again for five or six years,” he added. “Tottenham are coming to our stomping ground where we’ve beaten Arsenal and Liverpool and got a number of good results there so we’ve definitely got the ability to beat this team.

“I’d never wish an injury on any footballer, but we have to look at this as a blessing for us because Kane always tends to pop up and score one or two.”
