Long and winding road to EU divorce
It turns out we’ll still be paying into the EU until 2064, making it the worst value divorce settlement since Paul McCartney had to pay Heather Mills £24million.
What a shame we didn’t see during the 2016 referendum buses with this written on the side: “Vote Leave and for the next 48 years you’ll be paying Brussels billions that could go into our NHS”.
It seems even more disgraceful that 16/17-year-olds weren’t allowed to vote (as they were in the Scottish referendum) on something they will end up paying for all of their working lives.
Nigel Farage had the gall to respond to The Office for Budget Responsibility report thus: “The British public voted for a clean break, not a financial deal that will last until their own children are pensioners.”
Neatly forgetting that most of this settlement cash is going to pay the pensions of former EU employees – including his one of £73,000 a year.
Thanks, mate. You should be really proud of taking back control of your future, if not our children’s.
