Zuckerberg faces grilling by MPs over ‘data harvest’

-

CLAIMS Facebook’s Mark FACEBOOK chief Mark Zuckerberg faces a grilling by MPs amid claims the personal details of more than 50 million users were harvested.

Cambridge Analytica was allegedly given data from the network’s apps without consent and used it to tailor political advert delivery. The firm played a key role in mapping voter behaviour in the 2016 US presidential election and was used during the Brexit referendum campaign.

The Commons’ Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee has been probing. Chair Damian Collins yesterday accused Analytica chief Alexander Nix of “deliberately misleading” Parliament. And he added: “I will be writing to Mark Zuckerberg asking that either he, or another senior executive, give evidence.”

Anlaytica has denied the claims and said it complied with Facebook’s terms. It said its “commercial and political divisions use social media for outward marketing”, adding: “They do not use or hold data from Facebook profiles.”
