HUTCH: WE MUST SHOW SOME STEEL

- BY NATHAN HEMMINGHAM

SAM HUTCHINSON says Wednesday players need to restore pride in the famous old shirt after a disastrous season.

Hutchinson was instrumental in his side’s win – a result that helped give last season’s play-off semifinalists breathing space in the Championship relegation battle.

The Owls were expected to build on successive top-six finishes, but a bad run, a raft of injuries and a change of boss has seen them flirting with the drop.

Survival is in their own hands and Hutchinson says Wednesday must finish strongly.

He said: “We need to win every game and get as high as possible because I don’t think we should be anywhere near where we are.

“Regardless of all the injuries we’ve had and the stuff that’s gone on behind the scenes, it’s not good enough. As players and as a club as a whole, we’ve not been good enough this season.

“But now hopefully we can step up in the last bit of the season and we can put a run together and put some pride back into the team.”

Two sides in very poor form looked to be heading for a drab, goalless draw until the game came to life with 20 minutes to go.

Atdhe Nuhiu (above) poked the visitors in front from close range after Adam Reach’s header came back off the bar.

Leeds looked to have salvaged a point when Jay-Roy Grot headed home Pablo Hernandez’s cross, but Nuhiu wrestled his way clear in stoppage time to run in on goal and slot home the winner.
