Cardinal who quit over sex scandal dies

SHAME Cardinal O’Brien Icy hedgerow near Crickhowel­l SNOW blanketed much of Britain again yesterday, but there will be some respite this week as the mercury is set to rise.

But, as the mini-Beast from the East moves on, a deluge of rain is due to hit.

Downpours are expected in the North tomorrow, with showers moving across the rest of the UK from Thursday.

Yesterday, hundreds of schools across the UK were shut. Many roads in the South West were impassable due to snow. More than 80 people, including a couple on their wedding night, slept in a rest centre in Dartmoor after getting stuck on the A30 in Devon on Sunday.

Sara and John Lund were en route to their honeymoon in Cornwall. Sara said: “We were one of the lucky ones – quite a few people were stranded in their cars.”

And a four-year-old girl was fighting for life yesterday after the car she was in skidded and hit a tree in icy Cumbria. STUCK Sarah & John
