Failure to play security card stuns bloc
DIPLOMATS across the EU are stunned that our negotiators have not made more of our security capabilities in Brexit negotiations.
Theresa May hopes for progress at a summit this week. But despite our worldrenowned armed forces and having the best intelligence services in the bloc, embassy circuit sources say these have not been exploited.
An Eastern European diplomat said: “Why isn’t she using your security apparatus? It’s all you really have to offer us. We were all surprised. Without that, there’s nothing.”
A Whitehall official admitted security cooperation had not been on the table, adding: “We’re taking the moral high ground.”
