Scans to end prostate hell
MRI scans for men with suspected prostate cancer could spare more than a quarter of them from invasive biopsies, experts say.
For 25 years surgeons have taken samples to check for cancer.
But a study showed an MRI cut the need by 28%, with scans distinguishing between harmful cancers and those of “low grade”.
A team at University College London said it could mean 250,000 men a year across Europe could safely avoid a biopsy.
