Road fix fund £550m short

-

SOME 24,000 miles of local roads need vital maintenance within a year, amid a chronic funding shortfall, a study reveals.

And it found 20% of carriageways in England and Wales have less than five years of useful life left.

The Asphalt Industry Alliance cites an annual £556million shortfall – £3.3million per council.

RAC head of roads policy Nicholas Lyes urged the Government to give “the certainty of reliable long-term funding”.
