Road fix fund £550m short
SOME 24,000 miles of local roads need vital maintenance within a year, amid a chronic funding shortfall, a study reveals.
And it found 20% of carriageways in England and Wales have less than five years of useful life left.
The Asphalt Industry Alliance cites an annual £556million shortfall – £3.3million per council.
RAC head of roads policy Nicholas Lyes urged the Government to give “the certainty of reliable long-term funding”.
