Sting back in Toon to break bottle on Ship
STING’s musical The Last Ship was launched in Newcastle last night.
The pop star, born in Wallsend, was at a gala performance with local stars including England legend Alan Shearer and actress Denise Welch.
Asked if he still felt like a Geordie, the 66-year-old said: “Why aye. I only talk like one when I get angry.
“I was in the Bigg Market the other day and the girls were all in bikinis and I was dressed like Scott of the Antarctic. I don’t know how they do it.”
He added: “I’m proud of being a Geordie, this place made me who I am. It’s good to tell the story of the community I was brought up in and the shipyards.”
Sting was called on to perform after lead actor Joe Caffrey lost his voice.
