Beets ‘beat Alzheimer’s’

-

BEETROOT could slow Alzheimer’s, a study found.

Betanin, which gives the vegetable its red colour, halted chemical reactions associated with the disease, scientists said.

Professor Li-June Ming, of the University of South Florida, added: “This is just a first step but we hope our findings encourage scientists to look for structures similar to betanin that could be used in drugs.”

Earlier research claimed beetroot could improve oxygen flow to the brain.
