A hard day’s knight
Ringo receives his honour at Palace
RINGO Starr proudly displays his medal after receiving a knighthood for services to music.
The Duke of Cambridge bestowed the honour on the former Beatles drummer at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace yesterday.
Liverpool-born Ringo, 77, said: “It means a lot, actually.
“It means recognition for the things we’ve done. I was really pleased to accept this.”
The honour comes 53 years after the Fab Four were all awarded the MBE – and Ringo said he had missed his bandmates’ companionship this time round.
He admitted: “I was a bit shaky today on my own.”
Asked whether he wanted to be known as Sir Ringo, the musician, whose real name is Richard Starkey, replied: “I don’t know yet. It’s new and I don’t know how you use it properly.
“But I expect you to use it. I’ll be wearing it at breakfast.”
Ringo attended the investiture with his wife Barbara Bach, 70.
