would now be a middle aged man – 37 years old – had he not been killed by the Warrington bomb. Who knows what he or Johnathan Ball, who was just three when he died in the blast, could have achieved in the intervenin­g quarter of a century. It must be some comfort to their families that their deaths spurred on the then deadlocked Northern Ireland peace process. Some comfort, but I imagine, nowhere near enough.
