STEWART HAILS THE HALO
SIR JACKIE STEWART has blasted halo system critics, saying it will be justified if one driver’s life is saved.
The system – with a pronged-style cage (left) around the driver’s head – was criticised prior to its introduction in Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix.
Haas driver Kevin Magnussen called it ugly, while Mercedes boss Toto Wolf said if he had a hacksaw then he would gladly cut off the halo.
But Stewart, one of the greatest advocates for improved safety in motorsports, said: “If one driver’s life is saved, the halo will be justified. The cockpit today is a survival cell.”
