Hunt hint at tax for health

-

JEREMY Hunt hinted yesterday that he may consider a dedicated tax to fund the NHS.

The Health Secretary said he would listen “with a great deal of interest” after a Commons challenge by Lib Dem leader Sir Vince Cable to back the idea.

Sir Vince asked if Mr Hunt agreed “the only way is to have some form of earmarked taxation”.

It comes days after reports that ministers were considering a 1p rise in National Insurance to fund the stricken health service.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Liz Truss denied that MPs were being consulted about such a plan. CHALLENGER Lib Dem Sir Vince Cable
