Olbi is glad game was a white-off

- BY GARETH WALKER

TOM OLBISON knows nothing Widnes will face against Salford tonight can compare with Saturday’s Super League in a snow globe clash.

The Vikings’ trip to Wakefield became the first game of the summer era to be abandoned due to the weather when a blizzard halted proceedings after 26 minutes.

Back-rower Olbison saw first hand how bad conditions were and had no complaints when referee Liam Moore took the players off the field.

Olbison said: “It got to a point where you couldn’t see clearly any more than 20 metres in front of you and that’s when they canned it.

“It was freezing, mainly because of the wind and it wasn’t the best game mainly because both teams were just trying to keep hold of the ball.

“When the whistle blew and the ref said that we weren’t coming back on, I wasn’t arguing with him put it that way.

“I think we’ve all come through unscathed – there’s not been a load of coughing and Vicks around the place anyway.”

Vikings’ attention now turns to a Salford side that scored 46 points on their last visit to Widnes.

Olbison, recently rewarded with a new threeyear contract, added: “They’re coming off the back of a good result at home to Hull and we know they’ll be fired up.

“We had a couple of tough encounters with them last year when we ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard, so we know what they can come up with.”
