WILLIAMS IS SWEET ON CHINA AFTER SOUR TIME AT GOODISON

- BY JAMES NURSEY

ASHLEY WILLIAMS admits Wales’ trip to China is a welcome break from his struggles with Everton.

The centre-back (left) was sent off for violent conduct on his last club appearance in a defeat at Burnley.

He has come under fire as Everton have struggled, with their poor form costing Ronald Koeman his job as manager.

Williams said: “It’s not been great obviously.

“It’s not the first time it’s happened in my career where you have a bit of season you don’t enjoy so much and things don’t go well. It’s football, it happens and you just get on with it.

“We’re towards the end of the season now, but it’s a new start here with Wales.

“I’ve enjoyed the last few days meeting back up with the guys, kind of switching off from club football and switching on to international football.”

Williams, 33, is set to win his 77th cap today after making his debut 10 years ago. He says he would have understood if boss Ryan Giggs wanted another captain, but is pleased to continue. He added: “The new manager said he wants me to be captain, not anything else yet.”
