JOSE IS KILLING FOOTBALL

Roy: Mourinho is wasting Rashford talent and he doesn’t care about entertaining the fans

- BY JOHN CROSS

DUTCH legend Bryan Roy has launched a blistering attack on Jose Mourinho over his treatment of Marcus Rashford and accused him of trying to “kill football”.

The former Holland winger believes Mourinho is wrong for Manchester United because of his negative tactics and the way he uses the likes of Rashford.

He also branded United’s style under Mourinho as “crap”, lacking the excitement generated by Sir Alex Ferguson’s teams.

Roy spoke out as England

FROM BACK PAGE prepared for tomorrow’s friendly in Holland. “You guys have a great team, Rashford is a huge talent, I’m a big fan,” he said. “He can shoot, he can dribble, he’s fast, smart, very disciplined in how he behaves. Those kind of players should play every single week.

“I don’t understand why Mourinho doesn’t play him every week because he’s the biggest talent in England. Then you’re going to buy Alexis Sanchez, so what are you going to do with Rashford? Those sort of things I don’t understand.”

Reds boss Mourinho dismissed Frank de Boer as “the worst manager in the history of the Premier League” after being criticised for not using Rashford more regularly.

But Roy backed his former Holland teammate. He said: “Frank didn’t have a good spell at Crystal Palace but what he said is right – coaches like Mourinho kill football.

“Mourinho doesn’t think about fans, he thinks about results. Look at Manchester United, they play crap football. It’s awful.

“How are you going to compare that with the time of Sir Alex Ferguson? This is Manchester United. Football is for the fans, not for money.” England and Holland’s major tournament records (since Holland’s first post-war finals in 1974)...
