May in appeal over ‘pattern of aggression’
DEFIANT Theresa May blasted Russia last night for threatening Europe with a “pattern of aggression”.
Speaking at a crunch EU summit in Brussels, the Prime Minister tried to build support for a tough statement condemning Vladimir Putin’s government over the Salisbury nerve agent assault. She said: “I will be raising this issue with my counterparts because it is clear the Russian threat doesn’t respect borders and indeed the incident was part of a pattern of Russian aggression against Europe and its near neighbours.” Mrs May briefed French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the THREAT Putin latest developments, sharing intelligence which showed how Russia produced the Novichok nerve agent used in Salisbury.
In London, Russia’s ambassador blasted Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson for comparing Mr Putin hosting this summer’s World Cup to Hitler’s 1936 Olympics. Alexander Yakovenko said it insulted “the Russian people, who defeated the Nazis”.
