Trust is gone
With terrible irony, a fire alarm went off inside the Grenfell Tower inquiry on Wednesday.
Astonishingly, Chair Sir Martin Moore-Bick suggested “we should stay where we are”, echoing the “stay put” advice families were given on the night of the catastrophic fire.
He agreed to adjourn the hearing only when the survivors and victims’ lawyer protested.
Sir Martin later said he was sorry “that for some of those in the room to hear the fire alarm would have been distressing if not frightening”.
But such shocking insensitivity is no way to win the trust of the Grenfell community.
