“Of course,” he smiles. “There’s a real stigma that comes with talking about mental health and your emotions but that needs to be lifted. It’s important to talk.
“Writing songs is a necessity for us. It’s therapeutic, it’s a way of solving your troubles at the time and turning them into a positive energy.”
More importantly there’s a love and learning flowing through their tunes. A guitar band with melodic intelligence shouldn’t be that rare – all it takes is application and dedication.
“We spend ages writing our songs,” insists Jack. “We chop and change things around until we’ve found the perfect format.”
Their self-titled debut album and energetic live shows bear the fruits of their labours. Support slots with Wolf Alice and Swim Deep have built momentum, and all being well the route out of student squalor could be in sight.
“I think my dream home would be like the Shire from Lord of the Rings but with much higher ceilings,” says Kaye.
