As their name suggests, Brighton-based sparklers The Magic Gang bring something spectacular but sensitive to homemade pop. Their bittersweet songs of failed love on the mend mine classy influences. Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac and Brian Wilson mingle as sunny harmonies and melodic magic springs forth.

“Originally this band was gonna be 10-15 of our mates,” explains guitarist and frontman Jack Kaye.

“We would all be on stage, playing as many different instruments as possible. After a while we realised that wasn’t viable, but the name stuck.”

The Magic Gang sprung from a shared house of up to 15 young musicians in the seaside town. Amid student-era squalor their home assumed semi-legendary status for young local musos.

“It’s the perfect breeding ground for new bands,” enthuses Jack. “There are so many venues to play and so many other people doing creative things that there’s a great network of people supporting each other.”

The caring sharing approach fits as The Magic Gang’s sensitive side is well spoken for.

They’ve been called the house band for Generation Snowflake but Jack is proud to assume the mantle.
