Don’t make the bed..it’s bad for you

- BY MARK SOLOMONS mirrornews@mirror.co.uk

LAZY folk who don’t make their beds could be doing the right thing, say experts.

They insist it is much better to turn down sheets to let beds air during the day.

This will stop bedding becoming an ideal breeding ground for dust mites and bugs.

The Good Housekeeping Institute says: “Straightening the duvet and tucking in sheets when you get up might actually be bad.

“We each lose up to half a pint of water as we sleep, more if we are unwell or the bedroom is hot. Some is exhaled as water vapour but some leaves as sweat, which can soak straight into bedding. “By making the bed, we risk trapping moisture. This creates perfect conditions for dust mites to multiply and can encourage stains to form on the mattress. “A better idea is to air the bed by turning back the duvet and sheets.” The institute also suggests a machinewashable mattress protector. It recommends vacuuming the mattress and under and behind the bed every two months to stop mites breeding.
