QPR reacted furiously to a Crystal Palace bid to lure away boss Gordon Jago.

Palace were willing to double Jago’s annual salary to a dizzy £15,000 but Rs’ chairman Jim Gregory said: “This is very much like enticement.”

He admitted Jago did not have a contract at QPR but a “gentleman’s agreement” would hold him.
