METAL nuts and bolts tearing into Martin left 22 golf ball-size injuries.

One bit of metal embedded in his spinal cord, severing a vertebra and causing his paralysis. Another ruptured the carotid artery in his neck. Others peppered his legs.

He survived thanks to security guards putting a compress on his gaping neck wound and a 16-pint blood transfusio­n at the scene.
