HOW IT WORKS

-

NEUROPHYSICS Therapy trains the brain and central nervous system to find new ways to complete tasks the body can no longer do.

Patients perform gentle exercises on weight machines, working both sides of the body together. They are then told to close their eyes and relax.

Ken Ware says: “This encourages the two hemispheres of the brain to communicate with each other.

“With spinal cord injury, the system ‘learns’ to bypass the lesion and forge new pathways. As the body responds we see neural activity and movement taking place below the level of the spinal lesion or injury within a very small time scale.”

Martin was given exercises to strengthen his legs and hip flexors, which were tight from months of sitting. He used the lateral pull-down machine to strengthen his back, did bum shuffles to improve his glutes, and also used the leg curl machine.
