Dozens in hospitals for hiccups

COMPLAINT Sore throat DOZENS of people went to A&E with hiccups last year, NHS statistics reveal.

There were at least 43 visits to emergency rooms across the country because of the complaint.

They were among more than 22,000 incidents of potentiall­y trivial ailments treated as an emergency.

These included at least 12,216 headaches, 5,688 sore throats, 3,910 coughs and 261 congested noses.

But Dr Adrian Boyle, of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, said: “The number of patients presenting with these complaints is relatively low and, crucially, these patients are less time consuming.”
