Cue Card’s Sandown swansong

- BY ANDY MacMORRIN

CUE CARD will end his glittering career on the final day of the jumps season at Sandown next month.

Trainer Colin Tizzard said in Mirror Racing yesterday that the popular chaser would have one more run before retirement.

And owner Jean Bishop has now revealed the 12-year-old will line up in the bet365 Oaksey Chase on April 28.

Bishop said: “We just thought the Sandown race would suit him because it tends to be a small field. It’s the last day of the season, too, so it’s a nice place for it all to end. There will be no going back.”

In the four years since its inception, the Oaksey Chase has been won only by the Philip Hobbs-trained Menorah, who himself retired after last season’s victory.

Bishop hopes her chaser can also finish in style following a career in which he has won three Betfair Chases, two Betfair Ascot Chases, the King George VI Chase, Ryanair Chase, Weatherbys Champion Bumper and Betfred Bowl.

Cue Card’s jockey Paddy Brennan tweeted: “One last day out buddy.”
