FOOD BBC1, 9pm MASTERCHEF
It’s knockout week and only 12 cooks remain in this “toughest ever” cooking competition.
They have been split into two groups, and tonight the first six get their first taste of a professional kitchen. Which means they enter that bizarre world where every dish comes with a foam or a crisp, and possibly a few edible flowers.
At London’s ENEKO restaurant, the head chef gives them the lowdown. And the bright whites and bright smiles quickly give way to six sweating, stressed-out chefs. Not surprising really. Tempura egg yolks, cauliflower cooked four ways (other than boiled or microwaved, I’m stumped), and a sheep’s cheese sphere.
Just a few examples from the hilariously tricky menu. Then it’s back to HQ for an invention test for John and Gregg and renowned chef Nathan Outlaw. He’s picked his favourite ingredients for them to cook with – one contestant in particular will just be hoping it’s not a cauliflower.
