Kevin Maguire’s brief piece about Britain invading Russia (Mirror, March 26) reminded me of the Jolly George incident in 1920.

Britain and the Allies were out to strangle the new Soviet Union at birth. However, the ‘Hands off Russia’ campaign succeeded when London dockers refused to load the SS Jolly George with armaments bound for the anti-Bolsheviks. James Nugent Old Coulsdon, Surrey

Since we pay car tax, our roads should be perfect, which we all know they are not.

Where does that money go? It should be towards the upkeep of roads. My friend paid £600 to get a car wheel mended due to potholes. Councils should fight the Government so they can get cash for repairs. Mel Ingleton Coulsdon, Surrey
