OZ CHEATS SENT HOME IN SHAME
Smith, Warner and Bancroft banished
CHEATING Steve Smith and David Warner were sent home in disgrace last night from South Africa.
Australia’s captain and vicecaptain were ordered off the tour by Cricket Australia boss James Sutherland (right) who apologised to “all Australians and all kids who love cricket”.
And Cameron Bancroft, the
FROM BACK PAGE player who carried out their orders to tamper with the ball in last week’s third Test, was booted off the squad as well, with all three warned they face “significant sanctions”. But incredibly they are the only ones facing punishment, with coach Darren Lehmann and his backroom staff escaping unscathed. Sutherland said: “On behalf of Cricket Australia, I want to apologise to all Australians that these events have taken place, especially to all kids who love cricket and idolise the players.” But Sutherland may face more questions. Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen was one of the first to express his incredulity tweeting his mockery with a succession of Pinocchio emojis in regard to Lehmann. Cape Town stand-in Tim Paine (above) will be the captain for the final Test on Friday.
