Legal bid to stop Russia hosting tournament as tensions mount £880m of ‘dirty’ Russian property Sergei hit by poison at own door
DEPOSIT PLAN Mr Walker “DIRTY” Russian cash may have been used in £880million of UK property deals.
The Treasury Select Committee will probe claims proceeds of overseas crime and corruption are being laundered here, under a wider inquiry on economic crime.
It follows figures from Transparency International estimating £4.4billion of UK property may have been bought with “suspicious wealth”. More than a fifth of that was by Russians, the group claims.
Treasury Select Committee chair Nicky Morgan said: “It has been claimed the UK is a destination of choice to launder ‘dirty money’. The Committee will examine the UK’s role in international efforts to tackle money laundering and terrorist financing and implement sanctions.” CRITIC Emily Thornberry SERGEI Skripal was poisoned at his own front door, it was confirmed last night.
The highest concentration of nerve agent was found at the entrance to the Russian former double agent’s home, said chemical weapons experts.
The inquiry will now centre on his property in Salisbury, Wilts, and nearby area. Yesterday his niece TARGET Ex-spy Sergei Skripal Viktoria said Sergei, 66, and his daughter Yulia, 33, had little chance of surviving. She said: “I have maybe 1% of hope.” Ex-neighbour Ross Cassidy, 61, said: “What future have they? Death would probably be merciful.” Russia said the March 4 attack “suggests a possible involvement of the UK intelligence services”.
