Ageism smokescreen is vintage Wenger

-

ARSENE WENGER has had another delusional stab at convincing us he’s the victim in Arsenal’s descent from the Champions League places. It’s all about ageism, apparently. Talking about the flak he’s been getting the past 12 months, Wenger, 68, (left) told BeIN Sports: “The older you get, the more it becomes age discrimination.”

Sure, the Premier League doesn’t want to know ageing managers does it? That’s why this season alone, Crystal Palace replaced 47-year-old Frank de Boer with 70-year-old Roy Hodgson, and Everton brought in 63-year-old Sam Allardyce after sacking Ronald Koeman, who was then 54.

And Wenger’s old nemesis, Sir Alex Ferguson, was still winning titles at Manchester United aged 71, with the Old Trafford board gutted to lose him. A board that soon believed age was a bonus when 50-year-old David Moyes flopped and they turned to 63-year-old Louis van Gaal.

It’s not about the date on your birth certificate, Arsene. It’s about knowing the best date to walk away from a job you’re no longer doing as well as you used to.
