ZAHA & I DEFEND BEFORE ATTACK

-

WILFRIED ZAHA and Andros Townsend will take the attack to Liverpool on Saturday – but first Palace’s two flying wingers will have to defend. Jurgen Klopp’s side have scored 35 goals on the road this season – the highest in the Premier League. Mo Salah has netted 37 times in all competitions, while Sadio Mane scored the only goal in his side’s August win over Palace at Anfield. “First and foremost, myself and Wilf will do a defensive job, like we did last week against Huddersfield,” said Townsend. “We do our defensive job and then earn the space in the final third to attack. “A modern-day winger has to track back and defend and do that side of it. “But myself and Wilf are happy to do that side and it gives us the freedom in the final third to get forward as well.”

Zaha (below left, with Townsend) started his first match for six weeks after a knee injury against Huddersfield as Palace returned to winning ways.

“It is thoroughly enjoyable playing with him,” added Townsend. “People say he is the best player outside the top six – but, for me, he is one of the best in the Premier League.”
