DOUBTERS FUEL VARDY

- BY DARREN LEWIS

JAMIE VARDY is refusing to give up confounding his doubters, despite being odds-on for a World Cup place.

The Leicester striker’s goal against Italy on Tuesday was his seventh overall in an England shirt and his 18th in total in a season in which he has scored against all the teams in the top six of the Premier League.

Asked if he felt he had silenced his critics, he said: “I’m sure there is still someone out there. I’ll have to prove them wrong as well.’’

Some voiced doubts about his international credentials when he was first called-up for England three years ago.

“They’re the type of things that drive me,” added the former Fleetwood frontman (above).

“People doubt you, they’re going to doubt you, let them carry on doing it. I’ve always answered the questions up to now, so I look forward to it.”
