Pep faces battle to keep in-form and in-demand Sterling at the Etihad
MANCHESTER CITY want new contract talks with Raheem Sterling – but face a battle to keep him.
The England forward’s impressive form has made him a potential target for Europe’s top clubs.
He has 20 goals this season, his best return ever, and his stock has
never been higher after his improvement under Pep Guardiola.
City are willing to offer a 50 per cent pay rise on his current £180,000 a week after tying down Kevin De Bruyne and other big names to new contracts. Sterling has wanted to concentrate on his football but knows a good World Cup will only serve to strengthen his bargaining position.
Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate said: “We’ve seen his numbers this year with City, he’s playing with confidence.”
