Pain pills put pets in peril

THOUSANDS of dogs and cats were poisoned last year after eating over-thecounter pills such as paracetamo­l and ibuprofen.

The Veterinary Poisons Informatio­n Service said 6,790 pets were poisoned by drugs, and 1,741 by household products.

Ibuprofen was the most common painkiller eaten by pets, with 420 cases, and 401 for paracetamo­l.

Olivia Anderson-Nathan, who is a PDSA vet, said: “The consequenc­es can be devastatin­g.”
