I could relate to the letter from the girl whose best friend’s spending is out of control (Dear Coleen, March 27).

I had a mate who got into debt and was always at the pub borrowing money from whoever would lend it.

In the end, we all got wise to it and stopped, and we didn’t see him for dust.

Sadly, his marriage broke up as a result of the debt and he was left with nothing, but sometimes people need to hit rock bottom before realising they have a problem and need to get help. Billy, via email
