RHYS’ CHANCE OF A CORKER
Scarlets v La Rochelle European Champions Cup, qtr-final, 5.30pm
RHYS PATCHELL, targeted mercilessly by England boss Eddie Jones in the Six Nations, has been backed to give Welsh rugby one of its greatest club nights.
Patchell has been given the fly-half spot for this evening’s European Champions Cup quarter-final against La Rochelle, despite Dan Jones starting at No.10 in the pool wins over Bath and Toulon. Last month, Jones made the 24-year-old out to be the weak link in Wales’ team against England, asking whether he had the “bottle”.
England won, Patchell was subbed off early and he has not started a game for Wales since.
But his club have every confidence in him delivering in front of a record crowd of 15,439 at Parc Y Scarlets.
