Sahara gets 10% bigger

-

THE Sahara Desert has expanded southwards by 10% in the past century because of climate change, scientists warned.

Man was to blame for a third of the growth in the world’s largest hot desert, with natural climate cycles responsible for the rest.

The findings studied rainfall from 1920 to 2013 in the African desert, which is the size of the US.

Author Prof Sumant Nigam said: “Our results are likely to have implications for other deserts.”
