Corbyn: Labour needs to do better to fight anti-Semitism

- BY BEN GLAZE Deputy Political Editor

JEREMY Corbyn has used a Passover message to build bridges with the Jewish community, amid growing pressure to tackle anti-Semitism in his party.

The Labour leader said yesterday: “We all need to do better.”

It came after Jewish Labour peer Lord Winston accused him of “standing by” over the issue.

He also faced calls to suspend Christine Shawcroft from Labour’s national executive committee. She was forced to quit as disciplinary chief after opposing the suspension of a council candidate accused of holocaust denial. Mr Corbyn added in a video: “In the fight against anti-Semitism, I am your ally and I always will be.” But Lord Winston said: “Our leader stands by whilst Labour descends a disastrous path.” Ms Shawcroft said the row was “stirred up to attack Jeremy”.
