WILDER CALLS FOR HIS BLADES TO GET SHARPER

-

CHRIS WILDER admitted Sheffield United need to take their chances if they are to grab a play-off place.

Chris Basham had given Wilder’s side the lead early in the second half but Chris Mapham equalised with his first goal for the Bees.

The Blades had chances to win the game through Basham, Leon Clarke and Clayton Donaldson twice but Bees keeper Daniel Bentley stood firm. Wilder said: “If we play like today we won’t be far off the play-offs. But we need to be more clinical.

“I don’t think many teams have come to Griffin Park and had that many opportunities to win, but we didn’t take them. We leave disappointed but in a good place.”

Basham’s deflected strike put the Blades in front but Mepham capped a dream week – having earned his first senior Wales cap against China last Friday – by netting with 12 minutes to go. Bees boss Dean Smith is hoping the defender will continue his form against Bristol City. He said: “It’s been a good week, hopefully he can top it off with a hat-trick on Monday.”

Jamal Blackman and Ryan Woods (left) were sent off for clashing after Mepham’s goal. Wilder said: “Woods had a slap at Jamal and he’s slapped him back. Jamal made it easy for the ref.”
