Millwall keep scoring inside the first minute

- BY HECTOR NUNNS

MILLWALL boss Neil Harris hailed his fast starters as the Lions mauled Forest to stay in the hunt for a play-off spot.

Shaun Williams put Millwall ahead after just 27 seconds – incredibly the third match in the last four they have scored inside the first minute.

The turbo-charged opening left the visitors shell-shocked and Lee Gregory weighed in with a second – his 10th goal of the season – just past the half-hour.

The south Londoners, tipped to go down last summer and on a tiny budget compared to their rivals, are keeping up real pressure on the top six. And local hero Harris (below), the club’s record scorer as a player, said: “I hope none of you were late! What a great start we had again – it’s a good habit.

“We like to impose ourselves on games early and wanted to get after Forest today.

“I am not surprised by the number of early goals, we train with that intensity all the time.

“Maybe Steve Morison should take the credit for his talk in the huddle before kick-off. It was the perfect opening in front of a sell-out crowd. “We have no pressure on us and that helps, so regarding the play-offs it is one game at a time and let’s go and beat Ipswich on Monday. “If the play-offs are no longer a dream it’s a lot of hard work that has got us there, but I tell players I want more. I like winning.”

Good work from Jed Wallace on the right led to Ben Marshall crossing from the opposite wing and Williams headed past Costel Pantilimon.

Millwall doubled their lead when man-of-thematch Marshall’s cross was headed back by Morison and Gregory applied the finish.

Forest boss Aitor Karanka said: “I don’t think I’ve ever lost a game as a manager over something I hadn’t warned my players about.

“The players knew about Millwall, what they do well, when they scored, who was scoring – so that just makes it all the more disappointing.”
