MOYES' IN 999 CALL: PROTECT MY HAMMERS

- BY DARREN LEWIS

DAVID MOYES wants his West Ham players protected in the potentially explosive clash with Southampton.

Hammers have suffered 999 top-flight defeats and another today would only add to a toxic atmosphere at the London Stadium. Defiant owner

David Sullivan has already been urged by police to sit out of sight to prevent a repeat of the angry scenes which marred the Burnley defeat three weeks ago. Moyes wants more done by stewards to prevent fans invading the pitch and ruining the game, as they did against Burnley.

The Irons boss said: “The players have to be protected from these sort of situations.

“I saw the FA Cup tie between Wigan and Manchester City (when Sergio Aguero, right, was confronted by a fan). People are running on the pitch to the players now.” Even though 20 fans have already received lifetime bans, Moyes fears new signings could be put off joining Hammers.

“I want this club to appeal to international players,” he said. “What happened against Burnley is not going to make those players want to join us.”
