SHORE TO STAY UP..

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

SWANSEA boss Carlos Carvalhal says his side are swimming closer to the shore and pulling off a miracle escape from relegation.

Carvalhal, fond of quirky analogies, has hauled Swansea from the murky depths of despair to the calm waters of safety, with his side three points clear of the drop.

But the Portuguese knows there is still work to be done before the Swans can lay on the beach and breathe a collective sigh of relief.

“We’re swimming now, absolutely,” said Carvalhal (with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, left). “We’re not in the line of the water, but we are swimming.

“This is good because, if you go to the line sometimes, the sharks push you down and you can go to last position.

“If we continue to play the way we can, we will achieve the points and perform a kind of miracle no one expected.

“But we still feel we need to swim faster and we need more points to stay up.”
