Schools step in as child poverty soars

CHILD poverty is rising and schools are having to provide food, clothing and even loans to help poor families, teachers warn today.

Staff give stationery, uniforms and sanitary products to children while schools subsidise food and trips.

The survey for National Education Union finds 60% of the 900 staff polled think child poverty has risen since 2015.
