Tories’ £26m brekkie cash already used

THE Tories have been forced to admit there will be no new cash for school breakfast clubs, a week after promising a “funding boost” of £26million.

Education Secretary Damian Hinds said on March 19 that “more children will get a healthy and nutritious breakfast”.

But on March 26, questions by Labour revealed the money was announced months ago and will be spread over three years.

Tim Roache, general secretary of the GMB union, said: “Playing politics with meals for hungry kids is beyond the pale.

“How can feeding kids even be a point of debate?”
