Malaysia’s PM roasts Wallace over crispy chicken

BESOTTED Paul Hollywood PANNED MasterChef’s Wallace, right, with Torode THE Prime Minister of Malaysia has weighed into a row about one of the country’s chicken dishes which MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace took to task for not having crispy skin.
Contestant Zaleha Kadir Olpin served up a meal including chicken rendang curry. Wallace told her: “The skin isn’t crispy – it can’t be eaten. But all the sauce is on the skin I can’t eat”. She was later eliminated by Wallace and fellow judge John Torode. But Malaysia’s premier Najib Razak tweeted: “Does anyone eat chicken rendang crispy?”
And a host of others from Southeast Asia slammed Wallace as HOT TOPIC PM Najib and dish wrong. British High Commissioner Vicki Treadwell added: “Rendang is an iconic Malaysian dish... it is never crispy.” A spokesman for the BBC show said: “Gregg wasn’t suggesting the dish should traditionally have crispy skin. He was saying he couldn’t experience the flavours as it was presented.”
